General Duties:

New Prague Utilities (NPU) has an opening for a Utility Billing Specialist. The Utility Billing Specialist is the primary point of contact for customers and is responsible for all functions of the utility billing process, including accurately calculating and administering utility bill activities and maintaining customer accounts. 

Along with the monthly billing process, some of the daily tasks of this position consist of:

• provide customer service at the service counter for Utility Billing and other city functions
• taking customer payments over the telephone, in person, and by email
• performing complex reconciliation of accounts and transactions
• establishing and terminating customer accounts, including issuing final utility bills and credit refunds
• using discretion when calculating penalties and adjustments to utility accounts
• coordinating with the Utilities Staff on meter reading issues and creating service orders as needed

Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, post-secondary education in accounting, business management or related field preferred.  Candidates with years of experience in place of education are encouraged to apply

Knowledge: Applicant must have general knowledge of billing terminology, methods, procedures and a solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and internal controls

Reasoning Ability: Ability to identify billing issues and troubleshoot independently

Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform mathematical calculations of moderate difficulty and reconcile accounts

Computer Skills: Ability to utilize various systems and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel is required

Communication: Ability to respond to customer inquiries and deal courteously with the public; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with associates and the public

Salary:

2024 pay range $27.54 - $36.13 dependent on experience.
